At The Journey, we value....
... worship of an all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present God, both in community with other believers in regular worship services and individually in our daily lives;
... submission to God's authority and dependance on His provision, leadership, and wisdom in all things, with prayer as the primary vehicle;
... truth found in the pages of The Bible and in the person of Jesus Christ;
... developing relationships with one another both inside and outside the church, sharing our spiritual journeys and helping each other along, wherever we're at;
... humble authenticity in our interactions and relationships with one another and with Christ;
... joining God in His mission calling all people into relationship with Him, participating in missions to extend His invitation both in our neighborhood at home and around the globe;
... discipleship as a means of becoming more like Christ;
... participating in evangelism, both individually and corporately, sharing the good news of what Christ accomplished on the cross and in our lives, and inviting other to accept His free gift of eternal life;
... starting new churches as one of the most effective means of evangelism and church growth in an ever increasing unchurched society.
At the Journey, we believe...
... that the Bible is the verbally and totally inspired Word of God, inerrant in its original manuscripts. The Bible is our supreme and final authority for all issues pertaining to faith and life. (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20, 21).
... in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Gen. 1:1, 26; Matt. 28:19; John 1:1, 3; 4:24; Acts 5:3,4; Rom. 1:20; Eph. 4:5,6; 2 Cor. 13:14).
... that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin named Mary, and is true God and true man. (Matt. 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; Rom. 9:5; Titus 2:13).
... that man and woman were created in the image of God, that mankind sinned and thereby incurred physical and spiritual death, which is separation from God, and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and become guilty sinners in thought, word and deed. (Gen. 1:26-7; 3:1-24; Rom. 3:25; 5:12-18; 1 John 1:8).
... that the Lord Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, that He rose victorious from the grave on the 3d day, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. (Isa. 53; Matt. 20:18; John 3:16; Rom. 3:24-6; 5:1; 1 Cor. 15:3; 2 Cor. 5:21; Eph. 1:7; 1 John 2:2; Matt. 28:6; Rom. 10:9; 1 Cor. 15:14).
... in the personal and visible return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 1:11; 1 Thess. 4:16-17).
... that all who come by grace through faith to accept the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. (John 3:3, 5; 1:12, 13; James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23; Eph. 2:8-9).
... in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting joy of the saved and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. (John 5:28-9; 1 Cor. 15; 2 Cor. 5:10; Matt. 25:31-46; Rev. 20:4-6, 11-15).
... that all Christians are indwelt and baptized by the Holy Spirit when they receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Spirit is an abiding helper, teacher, guide and comforter. The Holy Spirit also equips believers with supernatural gifts to be used for building up the body and furthering God's kingdom. (Acts 2:28-41; John 16:5-15; Romans 8:16, 23 26-7; 1 Cor. 12:7-31).
... that water baptism by immersion is the biblical testimony of the professed believer in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:28-41, 47; Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 8:36-40; 10:47; 18:8; Rom. 6:3-4; 1 Cor. 12:13).
... that the Lord's Supper (Communion) should be practiced regularly as taught by Christ. All who partake of this ordinance should be regenerate believers, walking in fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The bread and the cup are powerful, rich symbols of Christ's body and blood. (Acts 2:42-46; 1 Cor. 11:23-29).
... that all believers have direct relations with God through Jesus Christ, are responsible to God alone, and that each church is independent and must be free from interference by any outside authority. (Hebrews 4:14-26).
... that every believer has been called, commissioned and prepared to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).
... that all those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord are part of the universal church, which consists of all true believers of any race or nation. The local church is an outpost of the universal church, and consists of local believers who are baptized and who associate for worship, work and fellowship. (Matt. 28:17-20; Acts 2:41-2; 1 Cor. 12:12-31).
... that Christ modeled true leadership by serving others, not by ruling over others. Within the template of humble servant leadership given us by Christ, all persons, men and women, are fit for leadership and ministry roles of all types, so long as they are regenerate believers, actively walking with the Lord Jesus Christ, and exercise servant leadership. (Mark 10:35-45; Gal. 3:28; Joel 2:28-29; Acts 2:17-18).
